The Lecker Kaffee Mug: Coffee with a Shot
“Milk?” – “Just a shot.”
The mug speaks German: Lecker Kaffee means “delicious coffee”, and mit Schuss means “with a shot”.
Which kind of shot, the mug doesn’t say. It only mentions, on the back, that there is one.
Praise on the front, a footnote on the back
The front says what everyone thinks after the first sip: Lecker Kaffee, in black serif italics. The back adds a small footnote: mit Schuss.
In German, a coffee mit Schuss can mean a splash of milk. Or oat milk, or cream. Or the other kind of shot you are thinking of right now. The mug leaves it open. At the office, it is milk, obviously.
A funny German mug for coffee lovers
Lecker means tasty, and Germans use it for almost anything that comes in a mug or on a plate. Coffee included, with or without a shot.
For the friend learning German who insists on ordering coffee in it. For the colleague who spent a year in Germany and still says lecker. For anyone who takes their coffee with a splash and never explains which one. A gift for coffee lovers, a birthday present, or a souvenir for anyone who misses Sunday afternoons of Kaffee und Kuchen.
So what’s in it?
At the table it usually goes like this. The person opposite reads a compliment to the coffee and nods. Then the mug turns, and an eyebrow goes up. By the second sip, someone asks what exactly is in there.
The honest answer is almost always milk. The mug doesn’t have to tell anyone, though.
White, or with colour inside
The mug comes in plain white or with a coloured inside and matching handle: yellow, pink, green, red, blue or black.
